Bedrock Vineyard Heritage Blend
Though we have crafted hundreds of wines from dozens of vineyards across California since then, the one constant has been the wine from this exceptional vineyard—it remains the most important (or “flagship,” in marketing speak) wine we produce. In many ways, the Bedrock Vineyard Heritage Wine most closely mirrors the evolution of the winery: it has grown from the initial six barrels made in 2007; its style has shifted subtly over time from an eager shout to a more assured confidence; and the vineyard itself has transitioned from conventional farming to become the only ancient-vine site in California that is Regenerative Organic Certified. We feel the 2024 vintage is one of the strongest wines of the year. Yields were low in 2024, so there’s less to go around, but the core of the wine remains rooted, as always, in Blocks 39 and 42 located on the “crown” of the vineyard along with ancient Carignan and Mourvèdre. The final blend is approximately 62% Zinfandel, 19% Carignan, 10% Mourvèdre, and 8% from the other 20+ varieties. Deeply scented of dark red fruits, anise and citrus this is both powerful and focused on the palate and will age gracefully for two decades or more.
“94 pts Vinous : The 2024 Bedrock Heritage Wine is a powerful, deep wine. Muscular contours and dark, enveloping fruit shape this virile, almost somber Zinfandel-based field blend. The 2024 needs time to soften, but it is also not quite as massive as some previous vintages, which is a positive. The overall direction at the Bedrock estate vineyard has been impressive of late. For years, I have asked myself if this site has the potential to make wines of the same level as some of the neighboring properties.”
